Sony NEX-5N 16.1 MP Compact Interchangeable Lens Camera:That's Your Next Camera

After the clicking noise while capturing video was remedied, the Sony NEX-5N has gained plenty of great reviews. As the camera may be a little bit complex, you can get great results by going into Intelligent Automatic mode or IA mode.

One thing you could do with the camera is to use the touch screen to choose just a small section of a complex scene that you have taken a picture of. When you do this, you will zoom into that portion with no distortion and with nice colors. Indoor images that are dimly lit continue to impress with shadows against a background having little noise. Almost all DSLRs that cost double don't even do as well. Something you don't really see in other cameras but found in this one is panorama mode which you can shoot panoramic pics from left to right. Though it can be a difficult task to take, you could hold the camera vertically and sweep right to left or left to right in this mode. In order to make this happen, you should go into the menu system, after you have selected panorama from the virtual wheel. It is in the user manual how to modify the settings, even if it isn't the easiest to locate.

You can create good panoramic shots with little effort. If you are not extremely keen in spending your time editing photos in Photoshop, you will find it worthwhile to obtain the Sony NEX-5N. Being able to go to manual mode on the virtual wheel is one of the solid features of this camera. With this you can actually modify the shutter speed using the mechanical wheel, and by pushing in the lower portion of the wheel will switch to the f/stop. The ISO can be seen beside the f/stop but can be adjusted by going into Brightness/Color in Menu mode. It is a bit tiresome since you need to finagle through option resulting in a lost opportunity for a nice shot. They need to make it so that it won't be a necessity to go back to the menu system.

Somewhere in the menu system you'll find the things you might like to do with the NEX-5N, but it may well be a sharp learning curve. The majority of people only use a couple of special settings that can be changed very easily. Your camera becomes more useful as these settings can be programmed for easy access. The navigation of the touch screen is very done well making it very easy to switch between the different options. Some of these are zooming in on images electronically, moving between pictures in image review mode, and when shooting an image, picking out the object to focus on.

The digital camera will be simpler to use with modifications to firmware, but the Sony NEX-5N is a superb camera. It will require only some minor changes to make it less complicated and more intuitive to use.
