Strength and Added Security Traits Goals for 1956 Crown Vic

Ford designers were puzzled when their 1955 model rated so highly in engineering and design, yet flopped in the marketplace compared to Chevy. With that in mind, Ford designers purposely retained much of the physical appearance from the ’55 model when they designed and built the 1956 Crown Vic.

That year’s popular Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria increased the vehicle’s horsepower nearly 15 percent from the ’55 model to as high as 215 horsepower thanks to a Holley four-barrel and shaved more than two seconds off the car’s 0-60 elapsed time. If a snappier car was the desire of an owner, he found it in the newer model which zipped to 60 mph from a standing start more than two seconds quicker than the 1955 version.

Maybe even more so than power, however, 1956 was the year Ford consciously turned to building safer cars. One year earlier, in 1955, Ford became the first of the big three car companies to offer an option so that buyers could pay more to have seat belts built into its cars.

Other safety features that were introduced into the 1956 Crown Vic included stronger door latches, recessed instrument panels, padded dashboards, and recessed steering wheels.

It’s hard to believe that the less powerful 6-cylinder Crown Vic sold for as little as $2.337.

A smaller V-8 was among three V-8 engine options offered to Crown Vic buyers, and offered the same 173 HP as the V-6.

Four additional new elements to the 1956 model were a new distributor control diaphragm, automatic choke for all three V-8 models, increased valve lift, and changes in the vehicle’s differential .

The popularity of this car seems to have risen through the years, possibly because of its stylish look, as it’s not uncommon for the 1956 Crown Vic automobile to be named Best of Class or even Best of Show in car shows in the 21st Century.

Tiny reproductions of this classic car are affordable in die-cast form with opening hoods, trunks, and doors. For the price, you hardly can score a better atheistically pleasing piece of memorabilia than these 1:32 scale 6” long replicas.
