buy Canon 60d, Why
I would strongly suggest you buy Canon 60d if you are in the market for a great DSLR camera. Why do I say this? It rocks in every way.
You can adjust audio levels manually, which is a big bonus when producing professional recordings.
The image quality is a big reason you should buy Canon 60d. I think the 60d is the best of all the DSLR cameras. It costs significantly less than the 7d or 5d, it has the same great quality as the 7d, and it is a lot tougher than the t2i.
The sensor is not full frame, but big enough. It is still the same size as regular 35 mm. Having a big sensor boils down to the benefit of being able to produce beautiful images with a shallow depth of field: a typical look of 35mm film. You can only get this kind of cinematic look with a large sensor.
Since I am a pro photog, I can say with all honesty, that the 60d looks better than cameras that cost ten times as much.
The flip out LCD monitor is the other great thing. The 60d is the only DSLR that can be used on a Steadicam without investing lots of money.
Flipping it out is all you have to do to let it fly. It works great on even the Nano Flycam, just make sure the LCD monitor is flipped out before you balance it. It is not always easy to to balance it, so don't waste time.
A feature length film is really not impossible to shoot on the 60d. It has never been easier to shot one, and I am shooting one right now. Camera set ups are quick and easy, sometimes faster than when shooting news.
Think of it this way: I set up a wide shot. Pick up the light camera on the light sticks, get the medium shot, the two shot, pick it up again, and get the close up, naturally with slight light adjustments, but the point is I can do it all alone if I have to.
When shooting 35mm film you will need a crew to do this. Shooting on the 60d can be fast and spontaneous, and flexible.
I love the light weight of it. Both the 7d and 5d are heavier, which could put you at a disadvantage. I can take the 60d anywhere, and shot cinema quality images, in public places without drawing a lot of attention to myself, because I look like a tourist. In this way I think its size is its greatest asset.
The controls are better than the t2i, more like the 7d. Going through menus, or changing the white-balance on the fly is fast.
Lots of pros use the 60d, they love it. In my carrier I personally have not had a more inexpensive camera that has produced such awe inspiring images. You will love it, so buy Canon 60d too if you are serious about DSLRs. Drop over to my Canon 60d review and see some cool footage I shot on the 60d.
